One of the benefits of being a Giant Squid is being giving the royal treatment. Squidoo just instituted the new Purple Star status for exceptional lenses by Giant Squids. Besides getting a kick in the lensrank chosen lenses also get a lovely purple star in the lens bio.

Slowly but surely I’m tinkering away at new lenses. I haven’t had the time to produce the same number I could when I started but the list is still growing and eventually the lenses on reserve will be active. My goal is to have my reserve lenses active and only have 2 or 3 on reserve at a time come summer.

My Write Prompts lens has been in the Top 100 Lenses since October 2008. I was astonished and excited about having my first lens place here. It’s been hovering in and out of the higher numbers for the last week and a few days ago completely left. And now it’s ranking at 264! I feel like it’s fallen from grace.
It’s funny how something as silly as rank can have such an effect on someone’s emotions. When I wasn’t near the top 100 I never gave much thought to it being there. I went about my business updating every week and enjoying it. Now, that I’m out, I feel personally wounded.
My logical mind tells me that with so many lenses being made every day that I’m lucky I was there for as long as I was but my wounded vanity has other thoughts which are obviously winning out at the moment.
Does anyone else go through such silly emotions with their lenses?
I’m 34 placements away from being in the top 100 for the first ever, ever, ever. I can’t believe it. It’s not something that I work toward but being so close… I can’t help but think about it. It’s finally done. My plus size shopping blog, which celebrated it’s first year in June, has a new home and a new look. I think it’s incredibly cute. Stop by for a look-see, answer the poll and leave a tender comment. 
The YouTube module is annoying me. The “display options” are not saving properly on any of my lenses (or they act like they have until I publish it). This started a few weeks ago (and yes, I sent a bug memo). I like to remove all the title, description, rating etc and put my own (or not) depending on the video/lens. All this noise keeps showing up no matter what I do. Most of it is unattractive and messes up what I consider an otherwise streamlined lens. Rant finished…
I just posted a comment, on a blog I was visiting, along with a backlink to my curvy chics lens and it posted immediately. When my mouse went over the link in my name one of those popup snap boxes came up; but instead of showing the lens it showed my note from my last squid cast along with a link to a different but related lens.
How weird is that? I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.
I haven’t really spent much time at SquidTop lately other than to see what everyone else is doing and to leave a few comments. I haven’t added any new lenses because I’ve been busy updating current ones (as well as other non-related work). Today I’m inspired to talk about by bottom 20 lenses thanks to this post/lens by JustBon.
Taking a closer look at your bottom twenty lenses is definitely a good opportunity to see where a little work needs to be done either in regard to adding a module or some kind of promotion. Here are my bottom twenty lenses. Please stop by, have a gander and leave a comment.
I’m not surprised that 13 of my bottom 20 are lyrics. There are a lot of huge lyric sites out there to compete with. But I loved Victoria Neely’s tip about creating simple lyric lenses with the same format and I had wanted for a while to highlight curvy girl songs. Other than the initial linking and promotion (and creating an index lens – Big Girl Music) I haven’t spent much time on these lenses other than to make sure that the videos are still working.
Big Girl Knits is a work in progress and as I work through some of the patterns I plan to add photos and pattern conclusions. 13th Warrior is a new lens and I still need to add character/actor information which I think will improve it greatly (maybe this weekend). I also want to make my fat blogs a little prettier.
Otherwise I have no major updates planned for these lenses and I can live with that. I will however make a point of providing some back links for them for the remainder of this week and see how that goes.
Curvy news:
I finished the weekly update on my writing prompts lens. Can anyone else believe that it’s almost August? Only five more months until Christmas. Sheesh. I hope everyone is having a great weekend.
